30,000 Curious Came to See the Show

What a mad, grand day for Lita Burke’s blog. 30,000 views. Smiles from Lita for all of you lovely and curious Gentle Readers who visited.

Suppose there is a most interesting street where the houses look like books. Inside these houses are places where fey-folk fairies play, wizards sing their magic, and Enchanters give  kisses. Anyone can walk down this street, and glimpse at these fantasy worlds through the windows. Lita’s blog is that street. 30,000 Gentle Readers have already walked its twisty cobblestone ways. Here are a few of the wonders in the windows.

Ride on a Wizard’s Airship

All aboard now for a trip to a plate-shaped ocean world, where islands float far above the sea. Dragons fly the sky, and clockworks creations inhabited by minor demons join human and elf-kind magicians in absurd adventures.

A proper wizard uses an airship to visit these floating lands. Others of more modest means use Ornithopters designed by Leonardo’s Airborne Contraptions.

Join in the sometime fun, sometimes scary, but always delightful adventures of Wizard Kadmeion, his half-elf assistant Sir Bright, and their friends in the fantasy world of Clockpunk Wizard. Get your first ride on Kadmeion’s airship, and meet a special dog that digs deadly mandrake roots in Forever Boy.

Unicorn Herd

Unicorn Island

There is a floating island in the royal elf-kind archipelago that has a herd of unicorns. They run in the steppe lands, and gather in the border forests.

The unicorns shed the husks of their alicorns, and the elf-kind collect these precious magical artifacts. An illness has stricken the herd. Lady Luck’s young daughter, with her favorite wizard in tow, visits the unicorns. She learns how to talk to the birds to get to the bottom of the unicorn illness in Glitter Ponies.

Enchanters' Luscious Magic

Enchanters’ Luscious Magic

Fire and a Hidden Spell Book

Lanith, a magical curios merchant, loses her shop and home to a mysterious fire. Her magician husband Tredan has gone missing.

The morally strict Church magicians, and the Enchanters with their luscious magic that they distribute with kisses, are in constant battle to do whatever is necessary to gain the upper hand in their world of Sye. She learns that her husband wrote a powerful spell book that will subjugate the Enchanters’ magic. His book sits in the middle of the decades-old conflict between the Church and the Enchanters.

With only her dragonette and the clothes on her back, she enlists the help of the Enchanters, and unravels her husband’s life-long secrets. His kidnapping tale starts in Wrath, and Lanith’s story continues in Tredan’s Bane.

Lanith and Nyle Went to Rune School to Learn About Tredan’s Days as an Enchanter

Lita takes Gentle Reader to the Enchanters of Sye world today, with an excerpt from her story, Tredan’s Bane.

Magical charms vendor Lanith, and Enchanter Nyle, have joined forces to search for Lanith’s missing husband Tredan. The two sleuths journeyed to the Rune School, and are now examining the various materials that Tredan left behind from his days as an Enchanter.

They discover that Tredan suffered from a long-term compulsion spell cast by the Enchanters’ adversaries, the Church Magicians. He left behind a charm that the Enchanter Grandmasters have safeguarded until now. Because the charm will harm any Enchanter that touches it, Lanith will check it while Nyle stands a safe distance away.

Nyle produced the case containing the tool set he had used earlier. He handed her a pair of magnifying spectacles. She removed the silk ties from the charm bundle, unfolded the sumptuous black velvet cloth, and spread it on the table. Tredan had created this charm under the pressure of a Church spell. He knew its magic was forbidden by the Enchanters. It must have been a horrible contradiction for him. Her heart was breaking.

Nyle Handed Lanith a Pair of Magnifying Spectacles

A glance confirmed it was Tredan’s artistry. Lanith selected a tool. She slipped on the spectacles and adjusted the magnification. Lanith paused.

“Nyle?”

“Yes, Lanith?”

“Does the exposed charm affect you?”

“No effect.”

“Then it will stay dormant until fed essence. It’s one of Tredan’s standard designs. I don’t want to wake the interior spells. Instead, I’ll draw out the charm’s remaining essence. It’ll tell me plenty.”

She’d have this chance to taste his Enchanter essence after all. Lanith touched the charm with a tool, cleared her mind, and took the dot of her husband’s Enchanter magic from the charm.

Lanith Took the Magic from the Charm

Lanith Took the Magic from the Charm

Oh, Tredan.

What are these nasty spells doing inside of your lovely charm?

Lanith removed the tool, tucked it away, and set aside the spectacles. She clasped her shaking hands on the tabletop. Her tears came as a silent and anguish-filled trickle. Nyle put his hand on Lanith’s shoulder, leaned down, and pressed his cheek against hers. His sweet Enchanter essence warmed her skin. It soothed her heartache.

“What did you find?” Nyle asked.

“Tredan’s charm kills an Enchanter. It senses the closest Uslar Ring, extracts the Enchanter’s spirit, and captures the ghost.”

“Not even Sciomancers hold unwilling ghosts.”

“There’s more. Once a ghost is inside, this charm will animate the Enchanter’s body and allow the charm’s holder to control it. The holder can then command the Enchanter’s magic.”

Animating a Dead Enchanter

“That’s terrible,” Nyle said.

“I knew nothing about Tredan’s proclivity with this ugly magic. Murder? Animating a dead Enchanter? I should have felt it with my magical empathy.”

“His Divine’s spell was thorough. It was impossible for you to have known.”

“This charm denigrates Tredan’s magic career,” Lanith said. “My heart doesn’t believe it. But the evidence is here.”

“The bad news is he’s written more spells after this one. Have you seen him with a journal?”

“Never.”

“Then he bewitched it with Look Away.”

Church Enforcers in Sye

Introducing the Fantasy World of Sye

Recent readers of Tredan’s Bane asked Lita for more information about its fantasy world called Sye. It is a place filled with dragonettes, magical essence, and those oh-so-delicious Enchanters. For those Gentle Readers who have not yet indulged themselves with a visit to Sye, let Lita introduce you to its ghosts, magic, and mysteries.

Lita Burke

With the release of my epic fantasy novel  Tredan’s Bane scheduled for the end of this month, I’m beginning a series of blog posts about the fantasy world in Tredan’s Bane and Wrath, Prequel to Tredan’s Bane .  I wanted to introduce you to this rich fantasy world and its inhabitants.

Sye is the land where the Enchanters, Church magicians, and others (called ‘non-Maji’kers’) live.  The humans, and some sentient fantasy creatures, use magic (also called ‘essence’) as a commodity for personal and practical use to power mechanisms that would otherwise use physics or natural laws.  For example, Magic Guild workers keep up spells for the street fountains and waste disposal.  Many of Sye’s humans have some magical ability, and can master basic skills such as slight-of-hand, use charms, or levitate small objects.

The landscape of Sye consists of pre-industrial towns and cities, farms, fishing villages, and mountain communities.  Travel is by carriage…

Lita’s Magic Show: Desire and a Spell Book

Enchanters and Ghosts Walk in the Fields of Yalu

Enchanters and Ghosts Walk in the Fields of Yalu

Welcome to evening time in the forest near Lita’s castle.  Wandering wizards camp here in colorful carts and put on their magic shows.

A lovely blond sorceress stands and gives us a winsome grin. She curtsies, twitches the skirt of her sparkly green gown, and scatters its earth magic in a mint-scented cloud around the campfire.

“Be careful whom you kiss in Lita’s fantasy worlds,” madam magician says.  “An Enchanter’s kiss awakens inner magic and destroys resolve. I have a story about a magical tome and sunny tombs. Let us speak with the ghosts and follow the Enchanters into the Fields of Yalu. We might return with our heart’s sour and lovely desire.”

The sorceress gives us her cautionary tale about magical passion and an oddities dealer who hides her kidnapped husband’s spell book.

Here begins the magic woman’s warning.

Next time, a half-breed elf whistles his haunting magic about Mermaid Fare and a Dragon.

See the other magic shows where a talking dog tells us about Mandrakes and Minor Demons, a dapper wizardling spins his yarn on Harsh Words and a Familiar, and a mage speaks of a Dire Secret and a Dragonette.

Enchanters Pass Magical Essence to Their Partners

Kisses are Magical Hanky-Panky

It's Kiss an Enchanter Day

It’s Kiss an Enchanter Day

February 14th is the official “Kiss an Enchanter Day” here at Lita’s castle. Before we get all distracted with the pleasurable mechanics, let’s talk about the psychology of smooches in Lita’s fantasy world of Sye.

Sye’s magical essence kisses are a cornerstone in Wrath, Tredan’s Bane, and the forthcoming Ghost Orchid. These stories look at the spell casting and political shenanigans of a world where magical power is a commodity.

Intimacy Mind Magic

Consider the kiss, so sweet and full of bliss. On the practical level, kisses fuel the magical hanky-panky for making little wizards.

Kisses Fortify Trust and Passion With a Partner

Kisses Fortify Trust and Passion With a Partner

But on the mind magic (psychology) level, kisses fortify trust and passion with a partner. A kiss mixes touch, smell, and taste to celebrate affection.

A kiss brings another person into our vulnerable personal space and shows we risk catching an infection and losing our heart. The best kisses reassure and inflame us with their magic.

How to Make Magic

Some of Sye’s plants have low levels of essence that animals consume to get their dose of magic. Human magicians who are predisposed to distillation spells ingest the essence-rich flora and generate concentrated magical essence in their bodies. These magic-saturated attractive people are Enchanters, not only in name, but also in their very nature.

Sye's Magical Essence is as Necessary as Salt

Sye’s Magical Essence is as Necessary as Salt

Enchanters distribute their essence using kisses and other less wanton methods. Sye’s people need a dose every day. Think of essence as a magical salt, but much more fun to dispense than with a salt shaker.

Join the Ranks

Sye’s world can be harsh with the Enchanters’ seductive ways, and establishing trusted essence partners is especially important to these affectionate mages. Male Enchanters recruit non-magician confidantes to draw off their extra essence using the Enchanter Kiss spell. In addition to the usual attraction of a willing recipient, the spell endears the receiver by flooding them with untainted magical power.

This deluge releases feel-good magical substances (endorphins). The essence onslaught in an Enchanter Kiss spell also repairs the receiver’s physical, thaumaturgic, and emotional wear-and-tear.

Surround Yourself with the Deep and Sensual Magical World of the Enchanters in Tredan’s Bane

The story is very intriguing and, at the same time, exciting. The scenes are evocative and sensual. The Church is the dominating factor in this tale which has many ingredients. The author has woven a story of adventure, magic, romance, passion, intrigue, suspense, murder, and religion with expertise.

The book is well written and it is action packed and fast paced. The author has done well in defining each character. The Enchanter Nyle’s character is ‘enchanting’ and mysterious. Another exciting part of the story is provided by Lanith’s pet dragonette who is also part of the main plot.

The tension between the Church and the Enchanters is palpable throughout the book. That gives tension and a unique angle to the story line.”

New Cover for Tredan’s Bane

Tredan's Bane by Lita Burke

In Tredan’s Bane, a magical oddities dealer hides her kidnapped husband’s dangerous spell book.

The spring clean for the old book covers continues.

Here is the new cover for Tredan’s Bane. In Tredan’s Bane, a dead Sciomancer told Lanith to beware of fire and kisses.

He should have told her to RUN.

Enchanters are so attractive, most believe they are amoral seducers. The Church considers them a dangerous lure for a soul’s journey to the afterlife. Problem is, Enchanter essence powers all of the magic in Lanith’s world of Sye. Because of the escalating attacks from Church Enforcers, the Enchanters have fled to their impenetrable enclaves.

Lanith’s husband Tredan has vanished. Her home and curio shop have burned. Long ago, she promised Tredan to seek the Enchanters’ help if he ever disappeared, so Lanith teams up with Enchanter Nyle. They discover Tredan wrote a journal filled with spells that will ruin the Enchanters’ magic.

There is more bad news. An Enforcer has come to town, and he will stop at nothing to acquire Tredan’s journal for the Church. Lanith must stop the Church magician from getting the journal and destroying the Enchanters. Lanith must also overcome her desire for Nyle’s delectable essence.

The Church’s warnings are true. Saving Sye’s magic could damn her soul.

Tredan’s Bane by Lita Burke is available now on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Smashwords.
